7th Grade News/Info

Colorado Rockies Field Trip
Wednesday May 9th!!

On Wednesday, May 9th, our 7th grade students will be attending the Colorado Rockies game at Coors Field in Denver.  We plan on leaving SMS by 10 am that day.  The busses have to run their routes before they can pick us up at 5:30, so we should return to SMS between 6:30 and 7:00 pm.  Students will be allowed to use their cell phones to call you when we are 20 minutes from our arrival at SMS.  We would appreciate your promptness in picking up your child.

Students can bring a sack lunch and snacks into Coors Field.  If your student is planning to purchase lunch at the ballpark, please be aware that food and drink are very expensive.  For example, a Rocky Dog and soda cost approximately $10.00.

Students who display behavior that is unacceptable will be asked to telephone their parents to come and pick them up at Coors Field. As representatives of Severance Middle School, we expect the highest standard of behavior, as this activity is an extension of the regular school day.  (Our 3 strikes policy  is below.)

Our school fundraiser will help pay a large portion of the transportation costs for our trip to Denver.  Students will be required to pay $15.00 for this field trip.  If you are going to pay by check, please make it out to Severance Middle School.  The money needs to be given to Jackie Jacoby or Carole Gonzales in the front office by Tuesday, April 24th.

Thank you!

Rockies Game…3 Strikes and You’re Out

Severance Middle School seventh graders have an upcoming field trip to Coors Field for a Colorado Rockies baseball game.  We will be attending the game on Wednesday, May 9th, 2018. It is our intent and desire to take all students on this field trip; however, we also need to ensure that students are able to consistently demonstrate responsible and respectful behavior because we are representing Severance Middle School and our community at Coors Field.  Therefore, seventh grade students will be held accountable for their behavior using a “3 Strikes and You’re Out” system beginning Thursday, March 29th. If a student receives three strikes between March 29th and the day of the baseball game, he or she will not be attending the baseball game and will complete an alternative assignment at school.

Students will earn one strike for each of the following:

* Being asked to leave the classroom and sit in the hallway due to disruption or poor choices in behavior in all classes (Including electives)

*  Behavior problems during lunch/recess

*  Behavior problems in the hallway

*  Being referred to the office for behavior

*  Being reported by a substitute teacher for inappropriate behavior

**In-school suspension is worth 2 strikes**

***Students will automatically “Strike Out”

(Receive three strikes at once) for an out of school suspension***

3rd Quarter Reminders

Happy New Year Parents/Guardians!

The 7th grade team is excited to begin 2018! As we start the second part of the school year, we want to remind you of a few things that will help your child be successful as they continue in 7th grade.

1.  Please send your child to school prepared with supplies for the new semester.  Students are especially in need of more pencils and notebook paper, as well as a set of colored pencils both here and at home.  Now is a good time to re-supply!

2.  Remember that Homework Club is available Monday through Thursday from 3:05-3:30.  Students can use this time to do homework, work on missing work, get extra help, etc.  Please utilize this time if you feel your child needs it!

Remember, you can always call or email your child’s teachers if you have any questions.  We look forward to a great second half of the year!
