Princeton, NJ: The College Entrance Examination Board, 2001).

  • On average, students involved in public school music programs score 107 points higher, according to the College Entrance Examination Board.
  • Physician and biologist Lewis Thomas found that music majors comprise the highest percentage of accepted medical students (66%).
  • 96% of respondents (Gallup Poll) believe music is part of a well-rounded education, and should be offered as part of the regular curriculum in schools.
  • Secondary students who participated in band or orchestra reported the lowest lifetime and current use of all substances (alcohol, tobacco, drug abuse) (source: Texas Commission on Drug and Alcohol Abuse Report. Reported in Houston Chronicle, January 1998).
