Why Performing Arts?

There are so many reasons to join the performing arts at the middle school level!

• Students with coursework or experience in music performance and music appreciation scored higher on the SAT than did students with no arts participation (source: College-Bound Seniors National Report: Profile of SAT Program Test Takers. Princeton, NJ: The College Entrance Examination Board, 2001).
• 70% of admissions officers of the nations' major universities say high school credit and achievement in the arts are significant considerations for admission.
• On average, students involved in public school music programs score 107 points higher, according to the College Entrance Examination Board.
• Physician and biologist Lewis Thomas found that music majors comprise the highest percentage of accepted medical students (66%).
• 96% of respondents (Gallup Poll) believe music is part of a well-rounded education, and should be offered as part of the regular curriculum in schools.
