What materials do I need for band or orchestra?
View the Materials List for a list of required materials and recommended equipment for each instrument.
What instruments are available for rent from the school?
We have a limited number of cellos, basses, euphoniums, f horns, bassoons, bass clarinets, and tubas available for rent for the school year. Please contact Ms. Sawyer for availability and rental fees.
What fees are associated with being in band or orchestra?
There is a yearly music tech fee ($25) to cover the cost of various programs such as Smartmusic and Breezin Thru Theory to make music fun and at home practice more effective. Students renting school instruments and 7th / 8th-grade percussionists will also have a rental fee of $100 for the year. Large instruments only on a first-come-first-serve basis.
How much do instruments cost?
Setting students up for success includes:
- Providing a quality instrument
- Providing the materials they need to operate the instrument and keep it in working order (reeds, rosin, oils, and cleaning kits)
- Acquiring any tools necessary to build skills (tuners, metronomes, flash cards, access to technology)
- Depending on the instrument and rate of progression, private lessons
As a district, we try to minimize cost to families as much as possible by offering rental options for larger, more expensive instruments and working to make sure low income families can still participate in music. If cost is a concern, please contact Ms. Sawyer to discuss financial options.
What are the time commitments outside of the school day for band and orchestra?
We have a minimum of four concerts a year for each grade level and class.
