Severance Middle School Clubs

We offer a variety of school-sponsored clubs that extend our students’ learning and leadership opportunities beyond the classroom. At Severance Middle School, these groups, sponsored by SMS staff and led by students, focus on the diverse interests and passions within our student body but also work together collaboratively to support and improve the culture of our school

If we do not offer a school-sponsored club or organization that meets the particular interests or passions of a select group of students, then we encourage these students to create a student-initiated club. These clubs must find an adult chaperone and can meet during non-instructional time during the school day to plan activities and events and pursue their collective interests and passions. If you would like to start a new club at Severance Middle School, please see the Front Office to fill out the needed forms.

Student Council

The Hawk Student Council is a student-run organization giving students an opportunity to develop leadership by organizing and supporting activities both in the school and community. If you are interested in participating and leading our school in activities like Spirit Week, Food Drives, dances, and other activities, please join us!

D20 Hawks

D20 Hawks is a Dungeons & Dragons Club that focuses on roleplay, character creation, story-telling, math and authentic teamwork. Students lead parties through challenging puzzles where their decisions impact the outcome of the story every week. This club requires the use of dice, a player's manual, a creative mind, a spirit of collaboration, and a chromebook; the club is also open to table-top board game players of all kinds. Adventure awaits - roll for initiative!

FCA

Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) is open to anyone regardless of whether you play a sport or not. We start with a treat and hear a bible based message that supports teens and what they are going through.

NJHS

The National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) elevates a school’s commitment to the values of scholarship, service, leadership, character, and citizenship. These five pillars have been associated with membership in the organization since its inception in 1929. NJHS requires an application process to become a member; invitations to apply to NJHS are distributed in quarter 3 each year.

Sewing Club

For those of you interested in learning how to sew, please join me after school to learn the basics of needlework. Start up materials (fabric, sewing needles, thread, etc.) will be provided.

Gardening Club

The SMS Gardening Club is a place for students to explore agriculture, horticulture, and the ways in which humans impact and interact with the natural world. Students will be working and learning in the SMS Greenhouse and actively participating in the creation of a school garden. The club is focused on promoting the happiness, comradery, and leadership skills of the participants; the club is also designed to include community engagement through actively connecting with professionals in the area.
