Band & Orchestra
Severance Middle School Band & Orchestra
Making music is a skill you can use for your entire life! Learning to play an instrument increases cognitive skills, teaches patience and discipline, works both sides of the brain simultaneously. Plus, it's a lot of fun!
Learning to play an instrument is also a commitment. Just like anything, it takes time to master a new skill. You will hear squeaks and squawks and wrong notes for a long time before things start to come together and sound like music. We will give you the skills to do this but it is important to go into it with an open mind and a sense of determination. This is why band and orchestra are year long classes. Getting frustrated when hitting a wall and learning to work through that wall is an invaluable skill few other classes have the opportunity to explore. We do to together and we take those tools with us into other aspects of our lives.
